John O'Brien

I'm John O'Brien, now living in Brisbane. Manager Guava Taxis, Arawa, 1974-75. Bass player in the band at the Davara 1974-75 with great mates Llew Mordaunt aka Lou O'Neill aka Sandy O'Neill (brilliant Rugby League brain and PNG test footballer, exceptional guitarist/singer and all-round great bloke from Balmain/Glebe) and Graham Morrow (ex drummer of the Sapphires (Cairns) and another terrific bloke - worked with Barclays). Later Mulga Bill from Bougainville - ran restaurant in Arawa with Tony Keating from Sydney (CCS, SHRM) and Nick Williamson from Woollongong (Concentrator).

Saw the building (the old restaurant in Arawa) on a TV doco a couple of years ago as Francis Ona's Bank of Bougainville. The old bar that Llew and I made had acquired a heavy security grille and functioned as the bank's front counter. Making withdrawals evidently became a bit of a problem. Seems to have gone the way of almost everything else.

An interesting yarn or two in the pipeline. Your site is brilliant - who could believe it now. If you're still out there, please get in touch.

Cheers
John
